The test: the value stayed flat
In the evening I ate a pack of the More Nutrition protein tortilla chips and logged it in my CGM. The value stayed calm at around 137 mg/dl, without a notable rise. So far so good, that’s a markedly friendlier curve than with classic chips.
What’s really in them
Per the manufacturer and several nutrition databases, the chips contain about 41–43 g carbs per 100 g (of which ~3 g sugar), plus around 29 g protein and around 9 g fibre.1 A 50 g pack thus delivers around 20–21 g carbs: not 1 g.2
Why the value stayed flat anyway
No contradiction: the chips have a favourable profile. The high share of protein, fat and fibre slows the uptake of the carbs, blood sugar rises more slowly and flatter than with classic chips, which are almost only fast carbs and fat. For me the rise was spread out so that hardly any peak formed. That fits well with what I’ve written about protein and fibre (see Protein & blood sugar and Fibre & blood sugar).
My conclusion
The More chips are a sensible snack for me, markedly better than classic chips, with a good satiety effect and a flat curve in my test. But they aren’t a free pass. The real value of this self-test was the reminder that I have to read the real nutrition, instead of letting the marketing lure me into a “zero calculation”. That’s exactly what the CGM plus an honest note is for.
Key takeaways
- My value stayed flat after the protein chips (~137): a favourable curve.
- But: ~41–43 g carbs/100 g → around 20 g per 50 g pack, not “1 g”.
- Protein, fat and fibre slow uptake: hence the flat curve.
- “High fibre” tempts a zero calculation; subtracting all the fibre is wrong.
- A good snack in moderation: keep an eye on the amount (several packs).
